11. I'm a contractor, with a fixed contract - can I get cover?

If you are made unemployed from a fixed-term contract, you will only be entitled to unemployment benefit if:

  • you have been with the same employer for more than 6 months, your contract has been renewed at least twice and your contract has terminated early, in which case unemployment benefit will cease at the end of the contract term; or
  • you are on a yearly contract which has been renewed at least once immediately prior to your being made unemployed; or
  • you are under a contract with the same employer for a period of at least 24 consecutive months immediately prior to your being made unemployed.
